ESOG Holds Project Planning Meeting to Support Ethiopia’s National Self-Care Initiative

The Ethiopian Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ESOG) held a project implementation planning meeting on October 27, 2025, marking the start of its new initiative aimed at advancing self-care interventions in reproductive health. The meeting brought together members of the project’s technical team to review implementation strategies, key milestones, and selected implementation sites. The initiative aligns with the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) recently launched National RMNCAYH-N Self-Care Intervention Guideline, which provides a national framework for empowering individuals to take an active role in managing their reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, adolescent, and youth health needs. To support this government-led effort, ESOG has secured a grant focusing on provider-initiated self-managed abortion (self-MA). The project will strengthen the supply side by developing national core training materials, job aids, and training over 2,100 frontline providers across five regions in both public and private facilities. It will also implement demand-side interventions through tailored community advocacy and SBC/IEC activities to boost awareness and improve access to quality self-care and MA services. In addition, the initiative will enhance the quality of services by improving facility readiness and reinforcing standards of care to ensure safe, respectful, and client-centered reproductive health services. Through this comprehensive approach, ESOG aims to strengthen provider capacity, expand community awareness, and catalyze the national self-care agenda, contributing to improved access, quality, and equity in reproductive health services across Ethiopia.
