The Ethiopian Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ESOG) and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) conducted a two day Program Directors’ School Training at Friendship Hotel, Addis Ababa from June 5 to 6, 2017. 

The training, which was opened by a welcoming speech by Dr. Getachew Tolera, human resource directorate director at the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) and Dr. Dereje Negussie, president of ESOG, brought together about 24 attendees from 12 universities and medical colleges.

Attendees were from 12 of the universities where Ob-Gyn residency programs are up and running and two other institutions.

Topics covered during the training include Mentoring Residents; Residency Program Orientation; Resident Selection, Retention and Attrition; Curriculum Design and Basics; Motivating Faculty to Be Effective Teachers; Academic and Technical Remediation for Residents in Trouble and more. Dr. Peter Shwartz, Dr. Rebecca McAlister and Dr. Diana Lauren, all from ACOG and Dr. Balkachew Nigatu of ESOG took turns in covering the topics. Also present was Dr. Birhanu Taye, lube.
