The Ethiopian Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ESOG) with its landmark project in improving the quality of training in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) launched the Ob-Gyn specialty training harmonized curriculum and program requirements document on an event held at Grand Resort and Spa, Bahir Dar on July 14, 2017.

The launching ceremony took place at the 4th Consortium of Medical Schools in Ethiopia (COME) organized by the FMoH and hosted by Bahirdar University. Present on the event, among others, were Dr. Dereje Negussie, president of ESOG and Dr. Balkachew Nigatu, vice president, Dr. Getachew Tollera, human resource development directorate director at FMoH, Dr. Ephrem Tekle, Mothers and Children’s Health (MCH) directorate director, health and medical college deans and hospital CEOs.

ESOG under ESOG-ACOG Collaborative Project has taken the lead in the preparation of the document. The document aimed at harmonizing the curriculums being used by the various residency programs in the various institutions and setting a standard of requirements for institutions aspiring to launch the program.

Part of the event was the official handing over of the documents by Dr. Dereje to Dr. Getachew. ESOG was offered an immense appreciation for taking the lead in harmonizing the curriculums and preparing the standard requirements to launch specialty programs.

Later at dinner and closing ceremony his Excellency Dr. Amir Aman, state minister of health handed out the two documents to Prof. Yesigeta Gelaw, vice president of Bahir Dar University to mark the official launching.
