CAC FP1The orientation, which was attended by 15 health workers from selected facilities from Oromia and Amhara Regional States, was given on a survey tool entitled Assessing Health Service Quality Standards for Family Planning and Comprehensive Abortion Facility. The health workers will be responsible for the data collection process.

The document is meant to evaluate health service quality of the facilities in 8 of the standards: the provision of evidence based counseling and contraceptive service and management of side effects and complications based on national and global guidelines; health information system and its use of date and appropriate action to improve care for every client; the facilities referral system for every client whose condition cannot be dealt with; the effectiveness and the availability of need based communication with clients; the treatment of clients with dignity, kindness, compassion, courtesy, respect, understanding and honesty; the availability of emotional support and effort of strengthening the client’s own capabilities; the level of competencies and skills among health workers providing the service.

To that end the project also aims at selecting hospitals for the support on quality improvement on CAC and FP; providing orientation training about mentoring and quality improvement to 16 Health Care Workers (HCWs) that serve as mentors (Midwives and obstetricians), the HCWs should have a training on family planning and CAC and conducting baseline assessment on quality of care among the selected health facilities.
