The Ethiopian Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ESOG) and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) conducted their third jointed leadership meeting at Inter-continental Bristol Hotel in Addis Abeba on October 27 to 28, 2017. Center for International Reproductive Health Training (CIRHT) was also part of the meeting.

Present on the meeting were Dr. Dereje Negussie, president of ESOG, Janet Hall, program manager of CIRHT, Dr. Barbara Levy, vice president of ACOG, Dr. Mengistu H.Mariam, CIRHT program director for Ethiopia, leaders of the eight thematic areas under the ESOG-ACOG Collaborative Project, executive board members of ESOG and other officials from ACOG. 
On day one of the meeting progress reports from each of the thematic area leaders were presented followed by thorough discussions on the reports. Day 2 of the meeting saw presentations from each of the leaders on their deliverables for the year 2019. 
Preliminary results of a landscape analysis presented by the Journal Development Thematic Area Leader Dr. Muhidin Abdo marked the highlight of the meeting. The thematic area that was crafted to boost the quality and the quantity of volumes published under the Ethiopian Journal of Reproductive Health (EJRH) has been subjected to challenges causing overdues in progress. The results presented by Dr. Muhidin served a turning point in the overdue easing concerns among leaders of the collaboration.

The progress presented by the leader of the Ethics Committee Dr. Munir Kassa, Temesgan Sintayehu the leader of the IT Thematic Area and Addisu Deresse of the Program Communications also had their first moments on the stage of the joint leadership meeting. Dr. Dereje’s presentation on organizational strengthening effort currently overseen as part of the collaborative project was also typical of the meeting. The Residency and the Continuing Medical Education (CME) Thematic Areas were also part of the series of progress reports presented by Dr. Balkachew and Dr. Dawit Worku, respectively. 
The ESOG-ACOG collaborative project was launched in June, 2016 with the objective of addressing four thematic areas: Resident Ship, CME, Journal and Certification and Accreditation. The thematic areas to be addressed by the collaborative project later added three more areas to its list: IT, PR & Communication and Leadership Development. The issue of medical ethics was added later as yet another focus area of the project
