The Ethiopian Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ESOG) has conducted a training was conducted on Medical Ethics and Litigation at Getfam Hotel on December 4-5, 2017. The training brought together executive board members, ethics committee members, CME committee members, editorial board members, Ob-Gyns from 12 institutions and private facilities, and officials from the Federal Ministry of Health and Food, Medicine and Health Care Administration and Control Authority of Ethiopia (FMHACA), federal and regional ethics committee members, among others.

The training covered topics ranging from basic principles of ethics to the current medico legal climate in Ethiopia. Professor Schwartz A. Peter, former ethics committee chair of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and Sulieman Shigutie, attorney general at the Federal Ministry of Justice were among the trainers.

Medical Ethics is one of the thematic areas under the ESOG-ACOG Collaborative Project. The ESOG-ACOG collaborative project was launched in June, 2016 with the objective of addressing four thematic areas: Resident Ship, CME, Journal and Certification and Accreditation. The thematic areas to be addressed by the collaborative project later added three more areas to its list: IT, PR & Communication and Leadership Development. The issue of medical ethics was added later as yet another focus area of the project.
