The Ethiopian Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ESOG) together with the Ministry of Health (MoH) hosted a highly successful event focused on "Infertility: Understanding, Opportunities, and Challenges in Ethiopia."

The half day event, which was held at Capital Hotel on April 2, 2024 in Addis Ababa, brought together key stakeholders, experts, and policymakers to discuss the critical issues surrounding infertility in the country.

The event commenced with a registration and cocktail session, setting the stage for a day of insightful discussions and presentations. Prof Sileshi Garoma, Senior Advisor for the State Minister's Program and Service Wing, delivered a welcoming remark, followed by a Keynote Address by Dr. Hailemariam Segni, the President of ESOG. H.E. Dr. Dereje Duguma, State Minister of the Ministry of Health, also provided an opening speech, emphasizing the importance of addressing infertility within the healthcare landscape of Ethiopia.

The agenda included informative sessions such as an Overview of Infertility at the policy level by Dr. Alemayehu Hunduma, the Program Head for RH, FP, and AYH. Dr. Meseret Ansa, an Obstetrician and Gynecologist specializing in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and a board member of ESOG, presented on the current status of infertility in Ethiopia. Dr. Abel Teshome, another expert in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, shared recent research findings on infertility, shedding light on new developments in the field.

The event culminated in a dynamic discussion based on the presentations, focusing on the way forward for addressing infertility in Ethiopia. The engagement and collaboration among participants highlighted the commitment to understanding, exploring opportunities, and overcoming challenges related to infertility in the country.

The Ministry of Health delivered the closing remarks, underscoring the importance of continued efforts to improve infertility services and support for individuals and couples facing fertility issues. The event concluded with a networking lunch, providing attendees with the opportunity to connect, share insights, and forge partnerships to advance the field of infertility treatment in Ethiopia.
