The Ethiopian Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ESOG) continues its commitment to advancing healthcare leadership by conducting a specialized training program aimed at enhancing leadership skills among Obstetrics and Gynecology (Ob-Gyn) Department Program coordinators. The training, held on April 5th and 6th, 2024, at Addis Continental Institute of Public Health, marked a significant step forward in incorporating leadership courses into pre-service training for healthcare professionals.

The third of its kind training initiative aligns with ESOG's broader mission to foster leadership development within the field of obstetrics and gynecology. Drawing upon the principles outlined in the Leadership Development Initiative under the LDI:REACH program, supported and overseen by the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO), the training aimed to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to drive positive change in maternal healthcare delivery.

The training agenda included a comprehensive curriculum covering key topics such as advocacy, problem-solving, decision-making, gender equity, and team-building. Participants engaged in interactive sessions facilitated by experts in the field, enabling them to gain valuable insights and practical strategies for effective leadership within their respective healthcare settings.

Dr. Hailemariam Segni, president of ESOG in his opening remark, emphasized the critical role of leadership in improving maternal health outcomes and underscored ESOG's commitment to nurturing the next generation of healthcare leaders. He highlighted the importance of collaboration and innovation in addressing the challenges facing obstetric and gynecological care in Ethiopia, and expressed confidence in the participants' ability to drive meaningful change within their departments and communities.

The training initiative builds upon ESOG's ongoing efforts to promote excellence in obstetric and gynecological care through education, advocacy, and professional development. By incorporating leadership courses into pre-service training, ESOG aims to empower healthcare professionals with the skills and competencies needed to address the complex and evolving needs of women's healthcare in Ethiopia.

As ESOG continues to spearhead initiatives aimed at improving maternal health outcomes and birth experiences, the leadership training program stands as a testament to the society's unwavering commitment to advancing the field of obstetrics and gynecology in Ethiopia.
