ESOG, NOVA IVI Fertility Conducted CME

The Ethiopian Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ESOG) in collaboration with NOVA IVI Fertility conducted a Continuing Medical Education (CME) at Hilton Addis Hotel on February 12, 2017. 79 members have attended the credited CME.

The CME covered topics ranging from Basic Work-up and Evaluation of an Infertile Couple; IUI: Optimizing Results; Ovarian Stimulation Protocols; Basic ART Procedures along with discussions.  

AFOG Conducted Executive Board Meeting

The African Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology (AFOG) has conducted executive board meeting at Capital Hotel and Spa on Friday, February 3, 2017. The meeting was conducted as one of the events to the 25th Annual Conference of the Ethiopian Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ESOG) and the Silver Jubilee Celebration and the 2nd Annual Conference of AFOG.

Board members discussed issues ranging from Secretary General’s briefing on what has been done in Burkina Faso, other updates and discussions on the updates; general discussion about AFOG; obligations, treasure’s report including updates on setting an account; strategic plan, contributions and AFOG journal, among others.

Among the attendees were Dr. Oladapo A. Ladipo, president of the Federation (Pictured above),Professor René Xavier Perrin, the president elect of AFOG, Dr. Sami Mahmoud, honorary secretary general, and Dr. Dereje Negussie, treasurer of AFOG and president of ESOG.

Prof. Lukman and Dr. Yirgu Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award

The Ethiopian Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ESOG) honored two of its senior members, Professor Lukman Yusuf and Dr. Yirgu G.Hiwot, with a Life Time Achievement Award. The award was handed out as a part of an opening ceremony to the 25th Annual Conference of ESOG and its Silver Jubilee Celebration and the 2nd Annual Conference of the African Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Capital Hotel and Spa on the evening of Thursday, February 2, 2017.

A quick look at the curriculum vitae of these two professionals proves that the award is deservedly achieved. Dozens of original articles under their names, dozens of abstracts, presentations and reviews; community and public services in various institutions; authorship and contributions to various books, brochures and guidelines, Professor Lukman and Dr. Yirgu have spent the time of their lives dedicated to improve reproductive health in Ethiopia.

Dr. Yirgu has also served ESOG as its president for two terms and honorary secretary. He was also the president of the Ethiopian Medical Association and was AFOG’s founding president. Currently he is an officer of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO), the first from sub-Saharan Africa to be nominated for such post. Moreover he is also board member for IPAS International.
