The Ethiopian Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ESOG) conducted a series Continuing Medical Educations (CMEs) on various topics at Black Lion Hospital, St. Paul Millennium Medical College (SPMMC) and Capital Hotel and Spa beginning February 1, 2017. As introductory to the 25th Annual Conference and Silver Jubilee Celebration of ESOG and the 2nd Annual Conference of the African Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology (AFOG), a number of preconference CMEs were also conducted and attended by members of the Society and other health professionals.
February 1 saw hands on training on Basic Obstetric Ultrasound at SPMMC while Black Lion was hosting one on Operative Hysteroscopy.
February 2 was well packed with a number of CMEs at Capital Hotel and Spa including Updatein Critical Care Medicine, Writing Manuscripts and Systematic Reviews, Family Planning: Long Acting and Permanent Methods, Infertility Management, Perinatal and Newborn Death, Surveillance and Response, Evaluation to Approach to the Treatment of Endometrial Cancer and , Update on Cervical Cancer, Update on Surgical Management of UVP, Monochorionic, Twins, Second Trimester Anomaly Scan and HPV Vaccine.
The Ethiopian Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ESOG) has successfully concluded the 25th Annual Conference and Silver Jubilee Celebration, which was conducted at Capital Hotel and Spa on February 2-4, 2017. The event was also accompanied by the 2nd Annual Conference of the African Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology (AFOG).
Themed- SDGS: Challenges and Opportunities for RH in Africa, the event brought together hundreds of gynecologists, obstetricians and other health professionals from Ethiopia, Africa and beyond. Dignitaries include Dr. Kebede Worku, state minster for the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Dereje Negussie, president of ESOG, Professor Ladapo A. Ladipo, president of AFOG, Dr. Yirgu G.Hiwot, officer for the International Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology (FIGO), Dr. Heywood Brown, president elect for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), among others.
Well colored by an opening ceremony and reception on the evening of Thursday February 2, the three days event saw more than 70 scientific presentations, Continuing Medical Educations (CMEs), exhibitions, discussions and deliberations.
During on the opening ceremony a Life Time Achievement Award was also handed out to two members of ESOG. Dr. Yirgu and Professor Lukman Yusuf received the awards for their lifelong contributions in obstetrics and gynecology both in their professional careers and their participations in dozens of studies.
A new song that celebrates the achievements of ESOG in maternal and children’s health was also made public during the opening ceremony.
The panel on the theme of the event brought to the stage Dr. Yirgu, Professor. Ladapo and Dr. Azmach Hadush of the World Health Organization (WHO), to share views on the national, continental and global perspectives of SDGs. Chaired by Professor Lukman the presentations were followed by discussions.
The event was concluded with success on Saturday February 4, 2017.
The Ethiopian Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ESOG) held a press conference at Hilton Addis Hotel last Saturday December 31, 2016. The press conference aimed at informing the media and the general public on the upcoming event- The 25th Annual Conference of ESOG and Silver Jubilee Celebration and the 2nd Annual Conference of the African Federation of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (AFOG).
The conference will be conducted at Capital Hotel and Spa on February 2-4, 2017 with the theme- “The Challenges and Opportunities of Reproductive Health in Africa” -
Leading the press conference were Dr. Dereje Negussie, president of ESOG, Dr. Yirgu G.Hiwot and Dr. Mengistu H.Mariam. Having made elaborations on the event, the representatives of the Society have answered questions from the various media outlets. Reporters have raised questions regarding the upcoming event and on other issues regarding maternal, children and reproductive health.
The event was concluded with a blood donation session, the purpose of which was to increase the awareness of the community on the importance of blood donation to save lives and to discharge the social obligation of the Society members on top of the professional responsibility of caring for women, mothers, fetuses and newborns. Staff members of ESOG and a aboard member were among those who donated blood.

We are now making our final preparations to conduct the 25th Annual Conference of ESOG and the Silver Jubilee Celebration along with the 2nd Annual Conference of AFOG colorfully at Capital Addis Hotel in Addis Ababa, from Thursday February 2 through Saturday, Feb.4, 2017.
This year’s annual conference is organized to be memorable and one of the first in its kind as we will be celebrating our silver Jubilee, 25 years of hard work and contributions to Sexual and reproductive health care in Ethiopia.
There will be a panel discussion on: SDG’s-Challenges and opportunities for SRH in Africa. Distinguished panelists from Ethiopia, Africa and international organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) will speak in this important secession. Moreover there will be a panel on medical ethics in Ethiopia in which prominent personalities from US, ESOG and FMHACA/ FMoH will speak.
Pre-Conference and Post-conference parallel Continuing Medical Education (CMEs) will be conducted and there will be 50 scientific papers to be presented in the scientific secession.
The usual social event of opening and closing cocktail will, as usual give you an opportunity to meet old acquaintances and network with your colleagues and partners working in Reproductive Health (RH) sector from Africa and all over the world.

The Ethiopian Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ESOG) conducted a consultative meeting with pharmaceutical companies at Siyonat Hotel on December 16, 2016. The consultative meeting involved matters related to the 25th Annual Conference and Silver of Jubilee of ESOG and the 2nd Annual Conference of the African Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology (AFOG).
On the meeting Dr. Dereje Negussie, president of ESOG, gave overview of the joint conference and discussion was also on fund raising and engagement of pharmaceuticals with the presence of Dr. Dawit Desalegn, fund raising and sponsorship sub-committee head.
Themed- SDGs: Opportunities and Challenges of Reproductive Health in Africa, the joint conference is planned to be conducted at Capital Hotel and Spa on February 2-4, 2017. Members of both the Society and Federation, along with international personalities in obstetrics and gynecology, other dignitaries from the health sector both from Ethiopia, the region and beyond are expected to attend the joint conference.
